General Information
The Association of Complementary Physicians of BC (ACPBC) is a registered society that is open to medical doctors with specific expertise or a general interest in complementary health care or integrative medicine. The association was formed in October 1995 when a group of physicians with special interests in complementary therapies started having monthly meetings in Victoria and Vancouver, BC. The ACPBC is affiliated with the national Canadian Complementary Medical Association, formed in July 1996.
The monthly meetings contain an educational component featuring speakers who are practitioners of various modalities. Case histories are occasionally presented for discussion among the physicians. For the upcoming schedule, contact Dr. C. Astley by visiting our contact page.
The activities of the ACPBC reflect the main objectives, namely:
- To evaluate developments in complementary and integrative health care
- To provide support for complementary or integrative physicians, while promoting safe patient care, continuity of care, doctor-patient rapport, and appropriate referrals and consultations
- To promote communication, exchange of ideas, and cooperation between physicians both conventional and complementary
- To advocate professional development, continuing education and research in complementary health care
- To provide, where appropriate, expert advice and assistance to other health care organizations, information and education for the general public, health care professionals, medical students and physicians
- To establish, as necessary, liaison with other medical agencies and institutions
